Current Energy Profile of US/World

The following table shows how the US compares to the rest of the world in terms of energy production and consumption.  As you can see, the US produces about 17% of the total energy and export very little of it (1).  It terms of energy use per person, the US is king.


However, it is not only the US that has seen an increase in energy consumed.  The figure below shows the total energy consumption of the world and what sources are producing that energy (2).  As you can see, the earth as a whole has seen a increasing trend of energy consumption.


As numerous studies have shown, the fossil fuel stores are definitely a finite resource.  They WILL run out.  Obviously the trends we are currently seeing can't last.  Also, renewable energy can't supply enough energy to sustain the current trends, so reduction in consumption must occur.
