From class discussions and research. It has been shown that the impact of human activities CAN be reversed. However, this reversal will take an extremely long time. A scientist by the name of Alvaro Montenegro developed a complex computer model that calculates how long the CO2 would remain in the atmosphere. He takes into account the current usage until sources are depleted. He estimates that current consumption levels can remain until approximately 2100, with total depletion occurring around 2300. (1)
Montenegro's model concluded that 75% of the CO2 generated by humans would still in the atmosphere for 1,800 years. The remaining 25% would remain for about 5,000 years. So, unfortunately, even if humans stopped all energy consumption today, the results of our fossil fuel burning would be seen until about year 5,000!!!
