Green Stack: Stuff

Cans

Average cans consumption in the U.S is 131e9 cans a year, this equates to about 1.15 cans/day.  According to McKay this would translate into 0.69 kWh/day

Trash

The average American throws out 4 lbs of garage a day or about 2 kg.  According McKay this would account for about 20 kwh/person/day of embodied energy wasted.

Computers

The life cycle of a computer is the same in the U.S as it is in Britain: 2.5 kWh/person/day

Newspaper

Americans consume approx. 1.5 times the reading material than the UK (American Newspaper Assosciation), so using McKays logic this translates to 3 kWh/person/day

Car/road/house

The car and house would be comparable to Britain, so 15 kWh/day

Roads on the other hand....

The U.S has 4200000 km of paved road (DOT).  Over 40 years, the cost of the road is 35,000 kwh/m (McKay), so...

((4.2e9 * 35,000)/(40 years*365 day))/300000000 people = 33.56 kwh/person/day

TOTAL FOR "STUFF": 74.8 kWh/person/day
